Nailing candid moments on packed dance floors

At a wedding last Saturday, I ran a 35mm at f/1.8 on my A7 IV and hovered by the DJ lights to catch unscripted laughs and sleeve-wiping tears without breaking the flow. How are you handling focus and movement for true candids in low light — do you zone-focus around 2m or trust subject tracking without it pulling you out of the moment?

But i decouple AF on A7 IV: AF-C Face/Eye, transition 3, shift 2; “2m” only when DJ lights strobe.

I map AF/MF Hold to a rear button; when strobes hit, I hold it, pre-focus around 2 m, ride peaking, and release to drop back into AF-C with Face/Eye Priority. Do you leave ‘Touch Tracking’ on near the booth? Nudging the 35 to f/2.2 gives just enough cushion without killing the vibe.

I bump to f/2.2 and use Zone AF chest-high by DJ lights; “Pre-AF” off helps. @amelia25d?
