I screened 18 resumes today and half had 6–12 month stints. We say we want adaptability, but does that pattern still hurt candidates or am I stuck in a 2015 mindset? Happy to be wrong — what are you weighing when you see it?
If half of those 18 had “6–12 month stints,” I don’t auto-ding them anymore — , markets and reorganizations have made tenure noisy. I weigh one concrete shipped outcome per hop and ask in the screen, “why leave and what did you ship?”; early-career hopping is fine, but a senior with three short stints and no measurable impact is still a pass. Would you do one backchannel on a single hop to sanity-check the story?
I ask candidates with several short stints for a 90-second ‘why the move, what you shipped, what broke’ rundown for each; clear ownership beats tenure patterns, but repeated manager conflicts still raise a flag. @jackson_pal do you probe the ‘what broke’ part or just one example?
